On March 9, 2003 Martin Professional welcomed guests from over 40 countries to our International Distributor Conference, held at the Martin Factory in Frederikshavn. Following a day of product and strategic seminars, distributors were returned to their hotel where they were given one hour to change into black tie attire and return to our factory to attend an evening Gala Awards Dinner – the theme for the evening was "7th Heaven."
One of our challenges then, was, to convert the factory from a conference environment into "Heaven" within one hour. The primary challenge, of course, was throw an amazing memorable party. As it that wasn’t enough, the awards presentation was in the format of a revue, in which Martin staff (amateur performers – and that is being kind) would deliver a show to the distributor guests. The finale for the show: 50 Martin staff singing in a gospel type choir with a live band.
In order to deliver on this ambitious agenda, we knew outside assistance would be necessary. We interviewed several of the larger Event Companies in Jutland, and found that they wanted to completely "over engineer" the event, or, without listening tried to convince us to increase the budget for the event.
When we met with Eventsupport, we found that, not only was Peter immediately "on the same wavelength" as our team, he understood the concept of staying within the budget. "Anyone can spend a fortune to make an event special, the fun and challenging part," noted Peter "is to create a splendid affair AND stay on budget." With the assistance of Eventsupport, Martin indeed achieved that goal. In Peter we found someone who could not only source talent, decorators, props and every other last-minute request, but also could stage manage the production during the night in question. In the midst of 50 tense Martin "Stars for a Night," with opening night jitters, Peter maintained a complete focused calm and accommodated each performer’s demand.
Eventsupport’s collaboration with the Martin team was effective, inspirational and tremendously instrumental in building a full-concept event. Meetings with Eventsupport were very to-the-point without losing the playful creativity and Peter’s attitude was basically "I am here to make you guys look good." That he did, indeed. Our customers - Martin’s worldwide distributor network - termed the 7th Heaven event the "best distributor event the industry had ever held." For a group of people who have experienced every major theatrical and touring event in their region, Martin’s Performing Staff felt honored for the chance to shine.
